With Tropical Cyclone Alfred potentially heading towards the southern Queensland coast, it’s crucial to stay informed and prepared.

Please see above some useful information from the RTA to assist you.

If you haven’t already, now’s a good time to secure any outdoor items, close windows and doors, and check your gutters if it’s safe to do so. It’s also a good idea to have essentials ready – like torches, batteries, a power bank, non-perishable food, bottled water, and important documents in a waterproof bag.

Keep an eye on updates from the Bureau of Meteorology http://www.bom.gov.au/ and stay informed with Sunshine Coast Council’s Disaster Hub for up-to-date information and links to key emergency services in one location, including: weather warnings, road closures, evacuation centres, airport updates, traffic cameras and flood mapping.

Preparation Tips:

Secure Outdoor Items: Bring in or tie down furniture, wheelie bins, play equipment, tools and BBQ’s to prevent them from becoming projectiles.
Check Doors & Windows: Ensure they’re locked and sealed to prevent water ingress.
Protect Valuables: Move important documents and electronics to higher ground.
Clear Gutters and Drains: Prevent water overflow and flooding by removing debris.
Trim Overhanging Branches: Minimise the risk of falling branches causing damage.
Prepare an Emergency Kit: Include torches, batteries, non-perishable food, and first-aid supplies.
Turn Off Power Sources: Unplug electronics in low-lying areas to reduce electrical risks.
Relocate Vehicles: Move them to higher ground or covered areas if possible.
Lower Pool Level: If required, lower the level of your pool to avoid your backyard flooding (DO NOT lower water below skimmer box)

Don’t forget in an emergency situation call:
1. For power outage information, visit the Energex website.
2. For traffic and road closure information, call 13 19 40 or visit the QLD Traffic website.
3. If you require urgent sandbag delivery assistance, please contact SES at 132 500 or log a request via the SES app.
4. Life threatening Emergency – call 000

If your property is damaged
If your property is damaged, please stay safe and assess the situation before taking action. Once it’s safe, please conduct a thorough inspection of your property to check for damage. A detailed email to your property manager should be compiled, no matter how minor the damage. For urgent assistance AND later insurance purposes, the report should detail:
– Date and time the damage occurred
– The adverse weather conditions
– Damage caused by the weather event
– Take photos of the damage and consider use of video using a mobile phone
– Location point of water ingress (if applicable)

Also, just a friendly reminder that while the landlord’s insurance covers the property itself, it doesn’t cover your personal belongings. If you haven’t already, you may want to look into contents insurance for extra protection.

Stay safe, and we’re here if you need us!
